I hope to raise it to 80% does it imply hard work on the writer of the first messages? not really but probably some more effort then it will not work, guaranteed :) the structure of the sentence is very useful i think putting _() around texts is about as hard as you can make it for the occasional programmer :) people who are serious about locale support will probably do some more hm that may be true could you give an example? actually I don't see why features can't be adequately represented without muckiong up code rares: is that a remark about gettext or do i just don't follow? the simple sentence "%s has %s %s" someone who cares will never write printf(_("user%s"), users>1?"s":""); smoke: tourette's syndrome :) zarq: in common lisp there's a format-code for setting pluralforms based on integers zarq: it seemed pretty stupid to me should be "%s %s %s" :-) smoke; is that in the .po? fufie ;) fufie: lol think of the english sentence "he has a dog" zarq: no in the common lisp function (format) which works about as printf() does in C it fits the first zarq: (it's probably a macro, not a function - i still can't tell) smoke: Well, format is a lot more powerful. -:- hcf has changed the topic on channel #tunes to: TUNES, Free Reflective Computing System the first part "he" should be translated correctly.. ie a %s -:- pyro [tcn@bespin.dhs.org] has joined #tunes the "has" has to be chosen based on the first word and the last part ult: yes, but i thought the special thing for concatenating the `s' seemed a little useless outside the english language and the last part "a dog" should be a translation of it's own.. one needs the sentence structure to translate between western european languages fufie: but i suppose there are oriental languages in which "%s" would've suited better for the character which states that he has a dog, a chicken and a small barn :) I don't care about the oriental languages :-) actually I'm ready to write an all encompassing function called reverse or inverse because i'm getting dizzy (or is it ditzy?) with the formartting required it's not that I don't understand it it's that I have to specify it everywhere I need the feature things get crazy 03:40pm fufie; ever heard of that universal machine-readable language that is supposed to act as an intermediate in a translation from any natural language into any other? fufie: lol. but i think a simple solution would be to omit `%s'es in strings as much as possible, except for special cases in which items are just listed outside grammar zarq: I have seen a few attempts on them.. zarq/fufie: there was a new one created last year, wasn't it? fufie; the one i'm referring to is developed by the UN univ. near Tokyo iirc I think soon they'll give up and invent newspeak it's easier to translate when there are few wer words smoke: what one needs is arguments which are typed and can be used in a small DSL to write the translation rares, you mean esperanto? :) human language may well be a spoiler for information technology zarq ois newspeak of course, everyone could start speaking english. esperanto is ya natural language.. It's software support is not so great. the version of gforth that came with potato isn't compatible with the last.. it won't compile retro without changes I just wish BSD had better non-X video support high-rez text modes and direct video -:- tcn_ is now known as tcn -:- SignOff tcn: #TUNES (back to a real OS..) 07:40pm -:- pyro [tcn@cci-209150250152.clarityconnect.net] has joined #tunes back.. -:- SignOff pyro: #TUNES (pyro has no reason) -:- rares [rares@wtrb-sh3-port51.snet.net] has joined #tunes 07:50pm -:- pyro [tcn@cci-209150250035.clarityconnect.net] has joined #tunes ok anyone want to tell me WHY a company would ship a game with their 3d video card if the game doesnt support the card I bet they contribute to debian in their spare time heh. if it's that big a deal, go fix it. :) 08:10pm air: Whoa. I'm leaving in a few only if you allow it to be oh good ok water, what have you got in mind with slate/arrow? pyro: thanks for vagueness once again 08:40pm read the damn docs perhaps more appropriately but perhaps just as disappointing, what is the current state of the slate as opposed to last such? sorry, i've been extremely busy with work lately i haven't updated the online stuff this week i still have 500 more pages of acd&i to read... :) fine -:- SignOff pyro: #TUNES (pyro has no reason) though i wonder... if there are any papers about compilers for systems in which the meta-protocol varies as opposed to remain static well, i'm considering that method partial-eval actually should create new protocol elements yeah, i think i have one dcc? no, i'm busy * eihrul/#tunes nods. geez. i could always use that reason, as it's always true point being? i'm overtaxing myself which is correctable to some extent, no? lol or is it tragically not? yeah, i could drop one of my software projects or find some obscure way to get out of the navy change your sexual preference? what sexual preference? :) as i said... maybe if i actually preferred sex :) 08:50pm only so far as to get you booted out of the navy... no wait... i've never found anyone interesting enough it doesn't work any more especially in my line of work ok, writing detailed stuff on 'slate-semantics' where did you find said paper? i don't care to look (btw, this is my "sick of supporting lazy tunesers" mood :) rmm, i'm lazy now? yep, web-grep mop's hint too vague i'm too lazy to do that though... * water/#tunes thinks no, i really don't give a damn your loss lol i guess the fact that the language was c++ wouldn't matter, then? uh, it would, severely 09:00pm unless the paper is on C++ augmented with dynamic mops... (i'll suffer it for the sake of education) apertos stuff, if you must know if only you'd said apertos from the beginning :) i only just remembered well, then you know where to find the rest * eihrul/#tunes nods. 09:10pm hm "composable references" mean anything to you guys? 09:20pm hui 09:40pm ? it's a pdf, but doesn't render well in acrobat welp, migraine... -:- SignOff eihrul: #TUNES ([x]chat) 09:50pm -:- SignOff hcf: #TUNES (Read error to hcf[me-portland-us845.javanet.com]: Connection reset by peer) -:- hcf [nef@me-portland-us741.javanet.com] has joined #tunes -:- SignOff ree: #TUNES (changing servers) -:- ree [js@twisted.goodnet.com] has joined #tunes -:- DiagnostiX [mthomp77@1Cust126.tnt1.det3.da.uu.net] has joined #tunes is there a channel for trackers ? trackers? yeah...like buzz....fasttracker...madtracker...for music sequencing oh we're not a music channel oh happens all the time is there a channel devoted to linux musicians not that i know of diag, you use csounds? is it similar to ecasound not sure, it's open source and extensible take the tracker talk elsewhere this is a hard disk recording app...similar to slab gotta go....."tunes" -:- DiagnostiX [mthomp77@1Cust126.tnt1.det3.da.uu.net] has left #tunes [Segmentation] -:- DiagnostiX [mthomp77@1Cust126.tnt1.det3.da.uu.net] has joined #tunes -:- DiagnostiX [mthomp77@1Cust126.tnt1.det3.da.uu.net] has left #tunes [Segmentation] 10:20pm -:- NetSplit: sterling.openprojects.net split from king.openprojects.net [10:25pm] -:- BitchX+Deb1an: Press Ctrl-F to see who left Ctrl-E to change to [sterling.openprojects.net] -:- Netjoined: sterling.openprojects.net king.openprojects.net -:- Plundis [plundis@130.238.23.252] has joined #tunes -:- abi [nef@bespin.dhs.org] has joined #tunes -:- Fufie [stig@tunnel-44-12.vpn.uib.no] has joined #tunes -:- air [brand@p0wer.qzx.com] has joined #tunes -:- smkl [sami@glubimox.yok.utu.fi] has joined #tunes -:- zarq [zarq@9dyn26.delft.casema.net] has joined #tunes -:- washort [washort@d125.narrowgate.net] has joined #tunes -:- lar1 [larman@dialup-209.245.141.121.SanJose1.Level3.net] has joined #tunes -:- water [water@tnt-10-198.tscnet.net] has joined #tunes -:- hcf [nef@me-portland-us741.javanet.com] has joined #tunes -:- ree [js@twisted.goodnet.com] has joined #tunes -:- SignOff water: #TUNES (Ping timeout for water[tnt-10-198.tscnet.net]) -:- SignOff ree: #TUNES (changing servers) -:- SignOff lar1: #TUNES (Leaving) -:- SignOff hcf: #TUNES (Leaving) -:- _ruiner_ [DIY@ppp153.wi.centurytel.net] has joined #tunes -:- fire [no@209-68-229-24.dialup.cust.tfb.com] has joined #tunes howdy <_ruiner_> hi 11:50pm * fire/#tunes just got squeak pretty cool <_ruiner_> bah!
