Depends on which one would be best to market * Downix/#tunes has been seriously pondering quite a few options one is a MIPS ATX motherboard, another is a MIPS-based internet appliance, and so on now tell me again about your business right now it's mostly geared for designing a MIPS-based solution, either an open solution (bad due to the major competition w/ Microsoft) or an embedded solution (bad due to the competition w/ Microsoft(WebTV) but I am studying up on a possible alternative route that is relatively free of competition i see 02:40pm do you own this company? me and my partner do, yes i see do you have any products available right now or are you just working off of investors? * Downix/#tunes has to decide weither to finish the ATX board and risk the market, or to turn it into an appliance... or to scrap both for the more compeditive product that'll require more development. right now I'm working off of personal savings actually uh oh better work fast then :P I could have a product ready (the ATX) within a week, but now I'm concerned over marketing it and this would just be a regular ol' MIPS mother board? right hmmm 8 PCI slots, no ISA no isa is nice i heard intel was working on that also no standard keyboard, serial, etc. only USB and a single serial port not bad very bare-bones system I designed it to use either the RM5271 or RM7000 CPU the RM7000 is basically two RM5271's stuck together im sorry but i am kinda hardware illiterate...what are pci and what are they used for? PCI is a bus slot, what you plug video cards, sound cards, etc. into oh yes ok well what kind of appliance will you be able to make out of this (as you mentioned before)? The Internet Appliance is using the same basic schematic, a lower-end CPU (no L2 or L3 cache) and built-in audio, video, etc. But no bus slots to expand it hmmm -:- max_ [max@as4-dial75.pntc.mi.voyager.net] has joined #Tunes hey Max well how many companys have actually implemented no isa? i heard the idea is quite new quite new? * Downix/#tunes can name off systems from 1985 that had no ISA hmmm My old Amiga's had Zorro slots w/o ISA slots i mean just usb and very little serial port stuff Zorro's performance is about comparable to PCI * Downix/#tunes nods only Intel so far as I know 02:50pm but that's big competition even if we have the edge in performance -:- eihrul [lee@usr5-ppp201.lvdi.net] has joined #tunes i see with the um Plus our cost is greater, $500 for the lower-end board, $600 for the higher-end new celeron processor or something that new chipset Intel's celeron line is nowhere near as fast as a true RISC can be it's still CISC yes i say market the board down: i'd take a risc chip even if it were tad slower... so long as it's easier to program for :) if you have a mips without all that serial shit then you're doing ok as long as i get a discount ;) eihrul: MIPS is damed easy to code for, a lot of universities use them for teaching assembly hehe yep... i've looked at mips instruction set a few times, tis very nice in comparison Well, to produce them I'd need an EEPROM burner and a MIPS system to make a boot ROM that that's the only thing I lack get somebody to invest in you * Downix/#tunes can hand-etch the board if need-be heh have fun ElGato`: They invest in college degreed people, not college dropouts w/ good ideas anymore ElGato`: It's easy to do ya know. true i guess you could try to get a loan those that do tho get the real payoff. Note Yahoo and Hotmail * Downix/#tunes is considering a loan, would not require too much to do it but yahoo and hotmail are quite old already eihrul: They are now. But at one time they were just ideas that companies invested in eihrul: I used Yahoo back when the guys were still in college but now you have a million clones * Downix/#tunes nods that provide essentially equivalent services accept google just blows them all away IMHO that's when you know you got the right idea, when you get it first and then everyone else followes google? I've never used it although having a company invest in you can be good and bad ElGato`: I know. I want to do the loan route myself, then I control it. if they put money into you are influenced by them greatly however if you can ride the bear down: www.google.com obviously ElGato`: I'm going to try and. You've got a point about the ATX board, but it's the cost that's got me concerned. 03:00pm why pay $500 for a 300Mhz MIPS ATX mobo w/ CPU, when you can pay only $280 to get a 500Mhz Celeron w/ mobo? yes twice the price, and my Mhz speed is nowhere near the Intel board sure, but it's still an x86... can't you upgrade clock speed? ElGato`: 300Mhz is the fastest model made. ok then ElGato`: Of course it's SPEC is comparable with 600Mhz Pentium III's then why worry but noone cares about SPEC, they want Mhz what was the specint of the two? you aren't working with ordinary people...windows only runs on x86 and alpha eihurl: SPECint of the RM7000 is 19.4 SPECint of the Pentium 3 is 21 ElGato`: Actually, WIndows will run on this too down: damn it... i want one eihrul: The SPECfp of the RM7000 is 24.3 I believe are they porting to mips? i don't do many fp bound programs int is my biggest concern ElGato`: They developed NT ON MIPS. NT on Alpha is just NT MIPS ElGato`: Alpha CPU's run MIPS software native, and vice-versa oh my mistake then ElGato`: It's not often mentioned, but it's true. The only difference in the Alpha and MIPS is that the Alpha has twice the registers i see * Downix/#tunes was suprised to find that out, he booted up NetBSD for MIPS on an Alpha CPU so running alpha software on mips is probably bad, eh? * ElGato`/#tunes is thinking about marketing i just wonder if this is the right time to market this eihrul: yep. But porting it is simple, plus there's software that'll fool software into sharing registers in the business world it is all abbout timing * Downix/#tunes nods to ElGato. el: whens a better time? when the merced is released? eh? right now, no. the market's reeling from Athlon plus a higher-Mhz model of MIPS is coming this november, 400Mhz yes well i suppose now is the best time RM5271 and RM7000 again oh ok then perhaps later although actually, that might be a good time since the merced is vaporware anyway I was figuring that late november, early december would be the ideal time Merced's a joke, everyone knows it. Even HP is going "uh... We'll keep RISC around for awhile, a LONG while" then just hype some people up and get your board ready 03:10pm * Downix/#tunes nods I have a single copy of it working right now looks like shit tho I'm using a slower CPU too, 250Mhz down: what was jokey about it? some parts of the design seemed valid the 300 Mhz model is very new. getting better "threaded" code, preventing branching eihrul: All of it's "advantages" exist already in other designs. It's like Microsoft claiming that "the 32-bit OS has arrived" when we Amiga users were laughing out loud at Window's "new" features that we'd had for years those features might be there, but they are not explicit :) the Merced's "threads" came right from Alpha. The branch-prediction is from the Pentium, the core-optimization is strasight PA-RISC eihrul: No, but explicity isn't always a good thing. it did lead to massive machine language bloat, no? i used to like x86 asm but it became to large of an instruction set that is why i like risc most of the x86 instructions are deprecated so the useful instruction set hasn't grown too much * Downix/#tunes nods my feeling is that Merced's not that killer, other arch's (SPARC and MIPS) will grow beyond Merced only if they get the average joe market or atleast the developer market they might MIPS is doing a good job otherwise, hype will win out and intel will thrust merced down upon us whether it's good or not... it happened once already * Downix/#tunes nods what would happen to intel if mips and sparc overtake it though? same thing that happens to every company that looses, bought out it's just an odd thought... intel... broke abi: intel? elgato`: bugger all, i dunno abi: windows well, windows is a 32bit patch for a 16bit shell on an 8bit OS originally made for 4bit machines by a 2bit company that can't stand 1bit of competition eihrul: Well, Intel came from TI ya know but was TI necessarily broke? :) nope, but it's no longer #1 they changed strategy when intel managed to toast them in the market. Intel will do the same thing 03:20pm hrmm... what will they market then, pentium toasters? probably chipsets but... then if sparc inherits a monopoly that could be just as bad as x86 I don't think anything will get a monopoly the PC is dying ...:( to what? embedded designs you mean as in: only networked toasters, but no computers? :) bah! eihrul: No, they're still computers, but not open designs i want processing power not a networked toaster people want power, and it's at the point that open architectures can no longer deliver that power why not? because of their very nature being? open designs default to "lowest common denomination" 03:30pm so nothing can be truely optimized notice an SGI's 3D performance over a PC w/ a 3Dfx card so why not an open design not catering to the lowest common denominator? the 3Dfx may be performing more computations per second, but because of the limitations of the open architecture it's built around, it cannot achieve the performance that the older, slower SGI can it's like the problem I have with my car's exhaust manifold I could get a generic model, and performance will drop or I could get a customized one for my engine block and watch my horsepower jump but i still fail to see what the open design has to do with performance eihrul: That's cuz you don't know electronics sure i don't... but could you atleast explain why :) ok, it's like this: -:- SignOff ElGato`: #TUNES (Ping timeout for ElGato`[209.68.229.232]) is "bringing sb to the dock" a right way to say "prosecute"? in open systems, the systems' in open systems, the system's resources (bus, memory, CPU) are shared by a bunch of devices that have no idea what else is attached to the system so they act like they're the only things important to the system using IRQ's and such to demand attention which means resource conflicts happen quite often what's the relationship with "open" systems? Fare: "Open" systems refers simply to a system that uses generic, not customized parts I disagree completely with your definition now embedded systems have an advantage, there is no flexibility, or very little, which means the parts can be designed to take advantage of each other embedded often minimize components to reduce cost, and have a lot of things done by a single microcontroller in software Fare: Depends on the kind of embedded system sure your definition is not adequate; Fare: I know, but it is a start you associate "open" with a particular design. you associate "open" with a particular design. alright, let's change this more akin to: Consumers don't care about video cards, etc as long as they can do what they want to with it and manufacturers have realized this 03:40pm so the PC as we know it will diminish in favor of more closed designs since the embedded vs open arguement was off-topic which would probably mean less extensible hardware (or atleast less extensible than now)? eihrul: Right. ack eihrul: Intel's trying to close off a lot of avenues for companies, like video, audio, etc. i thought intel recently discontinued it's integrated video? eihrul: note how noone makes IDE controllers or UARTs anymore eihrul: Not quite, it merely "opened" up it's integrated video standard, AGP it's a nice tactic, get everyone dependent on your standards, so when you ship the next one, everyone is forced to upgrade, since you control 90% of all chipset production for consumer machines -:- max [max@200.28.121.92] has joined #Tunes definitely not good for all consumers involved nope which is what I saw happening with PCI and then AGP soon with NGIO hell, USB but wouldn't closed designs be more prone to this? eihrul: Semi, but not quite. ML is a family of functional programming languages. SML and OCAML are two examples oh man, that's not fast ever tried it? what makes c fast: compiler writers dumping time into it water: Yeah, I coded up a talker with SML... it ran slow compared to the same thing under C compilers are lame water: uncompiled software is lame i mean compilers as executables (c-style) uh, ok * Downix/#tunes just found SML very slow compared to C sml ~= ml 06:00pm water: you said it was an example. besides, its slow because its based on the lame paradigm of language development water: is it or is it not an example of ML? i can give some good examples of slow c compiler if you wish water: And I could give examples of a fast Java machine, big deal. n/m water: C suits my needs, it is flexible enough to do anything I need yeah, it allows you to exert your control addiction over the machine uh... you'd rather have the machine controlling you? c is for programmers who are almost as anal as assembly programmers water: Depending on the assembly language, assembly can be pretty fun water: I'd like to see ML do the same tricks I can do on a VAX that just proves that you're not interested in programming, just hacking water: actually, my interest is in hardware which makes you a poor judge of languages in terms of usefulness water: programming to me is nothing but a method to allow some hardware fun exactly: you're a hacker, not a programmer water: I can see that my talker (the only programming I do) runs slower on SML, C is fine for all needs I have water: Ok, mr programmer, code up a talker server in whatever you'd like to smalltalk, lisp, tunes, arrow water: and have it perform equally to my C code w/o using up more CPU or RAM well, i'm working on that the problem is that all programmers nowadays are really just guys with hacker-envy no one wants a really useful language, because they want to make love to their mchines water: well, I used to code with fourth, but to be honest, programming is not my thing. -:- Robot101 [rob@hadesian.demon.co.uk] has left #Tunes [] water: I prefer hardware, and always will damn. i knew that i'd drive him off, but it didn't stop me. downix: marry your computer (or os or software) water: No thank you. It's a living, not a love keep kidding yourself. the society around you helps you to believe that * Downix/#tunes thinks water's been smoking a bit water: Ok, route me to a better prograsmming language, let me check some more out. no, i've studied quite a lot of people and tried various religions and ways of thinking downix: contribute to tunes water: I'll see if I can run a talker with it that won't eat up much RAM or CPU time water: I'm not an OS guy, I'm busy enough with the F-CPU project. downix: everything else is the same as what you do now tunes ~= os 06:10pm the os will be an application of tunes water: ok water: Well, tunes still looks very very shakey in concept to me. i thought you'd think that why? got anything more than intuition? water: Well, frankly I just don't understand a lot of it. Noone here has yet managed the "explain it in 20 words or less" trick and brought me to understanding. Liar did that with Brix, same with core with his OS eek. compare tunes to a project like that? tunes is not about easy answers it would be nice if it were, but there's nothing like tunes for comparison or easy construction water: then it's not about answers at all, because all answers are easy if you break it down into simpler equations. asking the right questions can leaad to tunes, i believe although i don't think that the tunes group per se does this water: Ok, here's a place to start, how does the tunes project handle memory? (btw, i'm not a tunes member) * Downix/#tunes nods, ok ok tunes will apply high-level semantics to the issue, so that there is a framework for implementation, not a specific program and the framework should be available for change btw, one framework for general-purpose memory management is term re-writing logic water: Similar idea behind Brix then not quite water: Note I said "Similar" ok, nothing at all like, then water: alright. Then I'm not quite understanding. in tunes, you can change the editing framework for changing the memory-management framework in brix, the only editing framework is Forth (as far as i understand) water: ok, so you can both change the mm framework and the method to edit it? that's a way to look at it * Fare/#Tunes wants to create a 1x1 (or bigger, if needs be to trigger compression) transparent GIF file with an unlicensed software. Can anyone help me? 06:20pm water! hey fare i've been on a rant water: Ok. That's more in my grasp. a rant? water: The problem with tunes is the difficulty in grasping it Fare: icuc; http://www.research.att.com/~dmac/, http://mumble.net/jar/jar-bio.html fare: a tunes pitch http://lists.tunes.org/list/cybernethics/9908/msg00006.html hcf: ok fare: i'm not going to spend time making that gif, sorry water: I semi-understand, but I tend to think more linear than the way tunes is anyone knows GIMP? I can't even save a file! Fare: right click, file, save Fare: On top of the image BTW lol right click doesn't seem to work. Maybe that's because the size is 1x1... * water/#tunes imagines the day when linux will have a semantically-consistent user-interface Fare: You have to be ON the image water: That is a scary day * water/#tunes -> buffer overflow damn! and i'm an aleph-sub-nul bit machine! :) water: the reason I like Linux is the LACK of a consistant user-interface. eek. oh yeah, you're a hacker water: No, I have a very different taste than my roomates shit. Save failed! we each run w/ our own interface, tuned to our own tastes yeah, but gimp's interface is not subject to your whims unless you hack the code water: I see what you mean, yes, there needs to be a more coherent version of Linux out there * water/#tunes just decides to focus on tunes / arrow * Downix/#tunes wonders how complete tunes even is * water/#tunes wonders how Fare picks tunes lisp cores what CPU is tunes for even? chicken's blood and eye of newt? what?!? "what CPU"? water: that iS a valid question. you mean, what's the first cpu we will boot it on? 06:30pm water: No, what is the CPU that is being used to develop on well, it doesn't really matter, because we can develop tunes on top of an existing language system water: So it's an O-type? the reflection will eventually cover hardware and porting issues, like porting tunes to bare hardware or other oses "O-type" <- what does that mean? water: O, like the blood type o, lacking a protein/CPU layer for now for example, my arrow prototype runs on squeak, which is trivially portable across a dozen os's and hardware platforms ok squeak = smalltalk w/gui I remember water, you were talking about that earlier the other prototypes for tunes run on lisps, which are also very portable ok * Downix/#tunes codes one on Java, there ya go! eek hey, compiled Java is good especially if you get french vanilla flavore so are other compiled portable languages yup like oberon, which has it's own os it doesn't even use bytecodes for portability good, bytecodes suck it uses abstract syntax trees, which usually are twice as compact as bytecodes, and optimize very easily I've used oberon oh right now I'm more interested in hardware tho 06:40pm finally... g4 :) G4... *yawn* bah Well, the Power architecture isn't the speediest out there ya know no kidding it's still quite cheap per performance eh, MIPS is a better deal I've found are any mips motherboards easy to come by? same with ARM water: They are for me, but I make them, kinda. ok, but can you make a good machine out of them? 06:50pm water: Standard ATX motherboard w/ PCI slots -:- crib1 [user4868@98A886BF.ipt.aol.com] has joined #Tunes i mean, i wouldn't mind having tiny boxes with firewire connections, which i could link to make whatever device/fucntionality i wanted hello crib water: Building a "good" machine is up to you. But a good start, USB, Firewire, 1 serial port, 8 32-bit PCI or 4 64-bit PCI, your choice * Fare/#Tunes wouldn't mind having a StrongARM palmtop with a few hundred MB of persistent memory the real trick is that new oses and compilers have to be written, and that takes time and $ they do? * Downix/#tunes finds SDE-GCC and Linux work nicely yuck i liked linux until i started using it as does BSD, QNX, and a few others. -:- SignOff crib1: #TUNES (Leaving) water: It suits my needs. so, it's posix or the highway? i'll take the highway, thank you. good hardware can stay with hackers water: Not at all, there's also NT, CE, XOK, and a ton of odd-ball OSes out of asia wow. those all suck, too and are all written in c water: Name me an OS that doesn't suck, outside of vaporware Downix: ITS? it has been said that ITS is Incompatible Timesharing System, written at MIT around 1970.. or at http://bespin.tunes.org/~tcn/hack/its.html the beos is marginally better than the rest water: You said "it's posix or the highway" and BeOS is posix. beos supports posix, beos is not posix itself water: Neither is Linux, BSD, XOK, etc. i said, marginally better water: marginally better than suck is still suck, so name one that doesn't hmm unfortunately, jecel hasn't finished his Self/R and LispOS isn't ready water: There are problems with every OS. But sometimes you have to sit there and appreciate the benefits rather than dwell on the problems. Downix: right water: I use Linux and Amiga the most, they suit my needs. Sure, Linux lacks any sence of coherency and Amiga crashes if you look at it crosseyed, but they're both good systems then i'll take BeOS on one of ibm's new motherboards with a g4 chip :P water: Then do it. I'll take Downix on my MIPS systems anyday your nick is an os name? water: Semi. My nick is my nick. But I have been pondering what I'd do IF I were to make an OS ah. vaporware :) my nick is NOT "my nick". water: Yup, but vaporware is coolware, it can be whatever we want it to 07:00pm water: Seriously tho, I don't think the same way tunes requires me to think of an OE, so I would be useless to this form of project OE? water: to me it's all objects, folders, files, trees. op.env.? water: Operating Environment. Yes eek. folders, files, and trees water: but I don't think the way a lot of people do about them. yeah, you use words like "etc", "usr" ,and "bin" i bet water: No, I think more akin to " "? water: No, I think more akin to "utilities" "fun" and "misc" not much more helpful, imo water: probably not, but they work. I tend to think from the user-end water: Whatever is happening from behind doesn't matter to me much. So long as the user never sees it yeah, but users are helpless because they don't like environments that they can help to evolve they're stuck with what coders give them, which is inherently not in their interest water: Of course they don't, it's the blind sheep that the masses are. which is why tunes is about more than coding water: Take note of the Amiga and OS/2, which the user could customize. er.. yes. but they suffered from isolationism (because c code isn't ever really portable) water: Amiga wasn't coded in C, neither was OS/2 they were REXX what? no, rexx was the scripting language i'm saying that the undderlying c was what limited them as well as the isolationist REXX language * Downix/#tunes shakes his head well, i disagree water: Nothing wrong with that. Personally, I think users don't want total control, they want the security of having things handed to them 07:10pm i don't care what users want, because what they want could lead to total corporatization of society at all levels water: Not quite, they just want something that works when they want it to work. a real nightmare help me disable the GIF patent: http://www.tunes.org/~fare/pictures/infringement.gif nice picture :) water: I am a firm believer in Marx's ideas myself i don't firmly believe anything. i intend on arguing against tunes if it should become popular "believer" is the right term... water: it won't, don't worry thanks for the vote of confidence what's the address of this ibm machine to search for patents? www.patents.ibm.com 07:20pm thanks 07:30pm np * water/#tunes would do anything to find people to co-author papers and code for arrow / ontologies 07:40pm -:- SignOff water: #TUNES (Ping timeout for water[ppp-tnt-54.tscnet.net]) -:- SignOff Downix: #TUNES (BitchX: the ONLY IRC client on Viagra!) -:- SignOff eihrul: #TUNES (Ping timeout for eihrul[usr5-ppp201.lvdi.net]) -:- water [water@ppp-tnt-239.tscnet.net] has joined #tunes pi on sundance!!!! auuuggghhh! i must wait three weeks to see it wait! maybe they will show it on the ship's television (dare i hope ;) i thought u were leaving today? i am, in a few hours in the middle of the night? he's being smuggled on board hehe * water/#tunes wants to see pi i didn't get a chance to see it last year :( 08:40pm is it good? man i feel safe now about what? my home was broken into today and now i have a $3000 alarm system cellular uplink so it will call the cops even if u cut my phone lines -:- _water [water@ppp-tnt-93.tscnet.net] has joined #tunes plus it calls me so i can meet the burglar with a bat liar: so u'l just attract more sophisticated B&Eers <_water> :P this is the second time someone tried to get in, its the first time they succeeded they fscked up my backdoor last time trying to pop it open with a screwdriver -:- SignOff water: #TUNES (Ping timeout for water[ppp-tnt-239.tscnet.net]) -:- _water is now known as water and their attempt to kick in the door failed too 08:50pm brb 09:00pm -:- SignOff liar: #TUNES (Ping timeout for liar[p0wer.qzx.com]) -:- liar [brand@p0wer.qzx.com] has joined #tunes -:- SignOff terrorist: #TUNES (Ping timeout for terrorist[164.47.71.59]) -:- eihrul [lee@usr5-ppp212.lvdi.net] has joined #tunes -:- terrorist [terrorist@164.47.71.59] has joined #tunes * terrorist/#tunes is away: (Auto-Away after 10 mins) [BX-MsgLog On] -:- hcf_ [nef@me-portland-us340.javanet.com] has joined #tunes -:- SignOff hcf: #TUNES (Leaving) -:- ElGato` [no@209-68-229-146.dialup.cust.tfb.com] has joined #tunes hi :P :D :b :B :) i would have stayed on later today but when i was helping my dad my brother stole the internet from me :( :I 10:10pm ... >=) (:(|) <- homer simpson he has 1 hair, though well sorry but im not that good with ascii your use of ascii looks familiar hehe that was the day water figured out that ElGato == HickServ lol what is my use of ascii like? it was a joke i WhoIs'd you oh :P i don't do that unless i think someone is pulling my leg that's why i didn't pick up on it at first heh agua your definition of taoism isn't like what i heard from another person someone said that taoism is accepting the universe and studying it taoism can't be expressed in a sentence my sentences about the tao are reflections of the tao via my own being (modality) run on sentences the first time i was exposed to the word tao when i read the art of war no, not run-on's either sure... run-on's can be used in place of any well-punctuated paragraphs or group thereof an interesting book that too many people take too lightly so? it still doesn't help to descirbe the tao it just helps to describe it in one sentence, if it can be described in many "The tao causes the people to be fully in accord with the ruler. Thus they will die with him; they will live with him and not fear danger." "Warfare is the tao of deception." 10:20pm warfare requires two to exist so does deception ... but does one even exist? i does the ' character have an escape code? '\'' okay dokay if there is one, then it exists :) (that's all i mean by exist) but how can one say there *is* one? i am so sick and tired of every time i try to compile a program there are never less than 20 errors eihrul: by saying that there is one! :) i have many ideas about religion that i take from all religions but one cannot say that there is anything, correct? :D "exist" is just a word, a connective one can say anything that one can :) okay... let's disect the expression from the underlying concept i believe that if you look at the world and see things that always follow the same pattern no matter what they are and end up in the same place then i think "god" would be consistant with them one can say that there is anything, but one will can not prove it -will * water/#tunes constructs conversations from arrows underlying? blah blah blah interwoven, what have you you're sticking with unnecessary complication i mean for example, things in this world always seem to start out centralized and slowly become decentralized wouldn't "god" then be consistant with that? no, you just see things that behave that way ... how so? what you think "is so" is just what you see which depends on your way of thinking true then how can we make a statement about anything? there is never an "absolute" frame of reference for epistemic objects (i.e. reasoning without facts) 10:30pm i.e. classifying things as "true" or "untrue" only makes things that don't fit that model more complicated to deal with well of course nothing is absolute what about morals what i'm saying is that paradoxes are just "ugly ducklings" what do we reference them to? so basically paradoxes are not really paradoxes someone just screwed up in the beginning morals are value statements about actions (modalities) anything that doesn't fit into the moral system is simply ignored complexity but what makes them what makes killing wrong and giving right btw, this relates to my idea of an ontology :) what makes them is whatever makes them i base my ethics and morals around suffering nothing makes them wrong or right except the circumstances that led to you saying that suffering is relative as well yes but it's a good point to start from suffering can be enjoyed... it is relative to consciousness, which is an arbitrary construct yes... i have little time left to continue :( read about ontologies in my arrow paper, and consider arrows as epistemic constructs so are you searching for the truth? your paper is kinda hard to read and i lost that url you gave me the truth is represented by the last word in your previous sentence :) oh jeez ElGato`: which url? abi: accial accial is probably "A Crash Course in Arrow Logic" at ftp://ftp.phil.uu.nl/pub/logic/PREPRINTS/preprint107.ps.Z that 1? i think the truth is the only solid reference point that we have hcf: yes modalities don't need truth modalities? yeah, look it up on a philosophy introduction there are several on the net... do a web search funny you mentioned that...i have my philosophy book right here i'd give the url, but it would take time to find :) modalities are also related to arrow logics so are relational algebras abi: modal logic?
