ωνω Hex [hex@ravine.binary.net] has joined #tunes ωνω Tril [dem@bespin.ml.org] has joined #TUNES hello! 07:20am gakuk! ya I'd like to make the Tunes Makefile infrastructure general enough so as to use it to build my /etc currently, my /etc is divided into "normal files", symlinks for a few legacy files that moved, symlinks to /var/etc, and symlinks to /trans/etc (/var is variable files that persist, /trans is generated files that do not persist) how about creating a uniform data format for unix configuration options, and making the text files in /etc just representations of it? then we can simultaneously on making the linux kernel fully reflective... /trans is mke2fs'd and rebuilt at reboot, so that I have a writeable partition even while fsck'ing, and can use all those services that require /tmp and other places to be writeable -- great! Tril: that'd be an idea. Let's use SEXP as the representation format, then (the isapnp guys did it, btw) change unix syscalls into CORBA and change the binary format into Tendra btw, are you subscribed to oskit-users? nope COBRA -- aaarrrrggh What's Tendra? those mzscheme guys at Rice are building mzscheme over bare hardware thanks to the new oskit... is tendra related to ANDF? yep haven't looked at oskit yet. it's on my todo list isapnp did what? use SEXP 07:50am ωνω smkl [sami@ppp5.dial-in.verkkotieto.com] has joined #tunes (real old LISPers used SEX, but when time came to "sell" LISP as "the" "AI" language -- the buzzword of the time, before "OO", they renamed it to SEXP, to be more business-like) hehe 08:00am ωνω SignOff smkl: #TUNES (changing servers) Fare: some message you sent to a list (don't know which one) didn't get archived due to "invalid archive directory". I then noticed the /etc/aliases was out of date. You must have changed it without running 'newaliases'. I ran it so try sending again ωνω smkl [sami@ppp5.dial-in.verkkotieto.com] has joined #tunes was the archive dir for cybernethiqu wrong from my auto-ml? yup you must have looked in between the time when I changed the aliases and the time I ran newaliases you had gone to sleep oh, I came back just for getting cybernethique to work... now works perfectly two messages in the searchable archive! 08:20am "Fare talks to himself, part 1 and 2. For Fare talking to himself in English, see the cybernethics list." you got it! you egotistical bastard :) it's just me using YOUR disk as an archive! "being rich is being able to use other people's money" hey, I want to move non-tunes lists to /pub/list instead of /pub/tunes/list oh oh are you sure? This might break things... lispos/vm,os-*,and ultra, at least. You decide about cyber* because they are in the tunes domain, but not exactly part of tunes move'em, too NEWS: "Residents in some states are still powerless" you can say that again.. 08:30am you're supposed to laugh. electricity vs. influence. ha ha. π Fare/#Tunes grins it's your job to fix the junk.script to deal with these changes only if we do it synchronously are you doing it NOW? I moved the dirs, replaced with symlinks, and I changed the archive directories to use real dirs instead of sym links now I'm wondering what to do about my 2 separate wilma configurations (bespin.ml.org/cgi-bin/wilma and www2/cgi-bin/wilma) junk.script doesn't know about the /pub/tunes/list paths -- it just calls wilma what? two different configurations? OK, but if I move some of the archives to bespin/cgi-bin/wilma then you will need to call a different wilma you can remove symlinks now I need a domain you want separation of domains? No I can't: did you inform lispos the archive moved? do you need to? should I make a page that comes up that says "page moved" and refreshes in a few seconds? why not just let a one wilma manage everything? unless you consider hosting a LOT of mailing lists, of course did the archive really move? Well, do you want ALL the mailing lists I host on bespin to be under the tunes domain? right now there aren't any except BLAH a linux club I was going to start at one time, I think I'll remove it now. But later there could be video game related lists, etc. why not? I mean, I don't mind other lists being visible under the tunes domain ok, keep the symlinks for now I think I need a domain for the free OS hosting I am doing what is the new address? bespin.openprojects.net? 08:40am what's the new "official" address for the other mailing-list archives? haven't decided yet. going to #openprojects ωνω Connection closed from norton.openprojects.net: Success ωνω Connecting to port 6667 of server norton.openprojects.net [refnum 1] ωνω Unable to connect to port 6667 of server norton.openprojects.net: No route to host ωνω Connecting to port 6667 of server norton.openprojects.net [refnum 1] ωνω Unable to connect to port 6667 of server norton.openprojects.net: No route to host ωνω Connecting to port 6667 of server king.openprojects.net [refnum 0] ωνω BitchX: For more information about BitchX type /about ωνω Welcome to the Internet Relay Network TUNES ωνω Your host is king.openprojects.net, running version u2.10.03.lagtime.desynch3.indent8.dead.whox2.zombie ωνω This server was cobbled together Sat May 9 1998 at 12 25:56 EDT ωνω king.openprojects.net u2.10.03.lagtime.desynch3.indent8.dead.whox2.zombie dioswkfcg biklmnopstv ωνω [local users on irc(7)] 4% ωνω [global users on irc(57)] 36% ωνω [invisible users on irc(100)] 64% ωνω [ircops on irc(11)] 7% ωνω [total users on irc(157)] ωνω [unknown connections(0)] ωνω [total servers on irc(25)] (avg. 6 users per server) ωνω [total channels created(53)] (avg. 2 users per channel) !king.openprojects.net Highest connection count: 8 (7 clients) ωνω Mode change [+iw] for user TUNES ωνω TUNES [tunes@bespin.ml.org] has joined #tunes ωνω [Users(#tunes:4)] [ TUNES ] [ smkl ] [ Hex ] [ Fare ] ωνω Channel #tunes was created at Wed Oct 14 04:29:23 1998 ωνω Connecting to port 6667 of server irc.us.openprojects.net [refnum 2] ωνω BitchX: For more information about BitchX type /about ωνω Welcome to the Internet Relay Network TUNES (from varley.openprojects.net) ωνω Your host is varley.openprojects.net, running version u2.10.03.lagtime.desynch3.indent8.dead.whox2.zombie (from varley.openprojects.net) ωνω This server was cobbled together Sat May 9 1998 at 12 25:56 EDT(from varley.openprojects.net) ωνω varley.openprojects.net u2.10.03.lagtime.desynch3.indent8.dead.whox2.zombie dioswkfcg biklmnopstv ωνω [local users on irc(19)] 12% ωνω [global users on irc(57)] 36% ωνω [invisible users on irc(100)] 64% ωνω [ircops on irc(11)] 7% ωνω [total users on irc(157)] ωνω [unknown connections(0)] ωνω [total servers on irc(25)] (avg. 6 users per server) ωνω [total channels created(53)] (avg. 2 users per channel) !varley.openprojects.net Highest connection count: 58 (45 clients) ωνω Mode change [+iw] for user TUNES ωνω TUNES [tunes@bespin.ml.org] has joined #tunes ωνω Topic for #TUNES: www.tunes.org/ - User-oriented (reflective) Language/OS ωνω topic set by Tril [Fri Dec 25 20:07:23 1998] ωνω [Users(#tunes:4)] [ TUNES ] [ smkl ] [ Hex ] [ Fare ] ωνω Channel #tunes was created at Wed Oct 14 04:29:23 1998 ωνω Tril [dem@bespin.ml.org] has joined #TUNES ωνω BitchX: Join to #tunes was synced in 4.464 secs!! I got a P200 MMX... with a Voodoo 2 9 Voodoo 2 8 meg... too slow! <_QZ> hmm <_QZ> i have a c472 with a v1 4meg <_QZ> dont know howto get the fps but it screams in 640 I'm in 800x600... most of my speed loss is due to a very slow HDD and the P200 c472? <_QZ> celeron 472mhz w/ 128k cache <_QZ> its faster than a pentium II clocked at the same speed Ahh... that's what I need... at least double my MHZ and maybe finally shell out for a UDMA drive :) I know why we all make new OS projects... more/better kick ass games. I'm guilty of it. 09:40pm :) ωνω SignOff abi: #TUNES (hcf) <_QZ> i have a udma too <_QZ> 105mhz 128meg sdram <_QZ> how far have u gotten in halflife? Was gonna ask you the same question :) I have very little time to play (lame excuse), I'm only at "Apprehension" and only at the begining where you are in the water <_QZ> im on surface tension <_QZ> got the hornet gun <_QZ> kewl weapon Thats probably way further than I am... I love the game, please don't give any of the story away :) <_QZ> shoots hornets and never needs ammo <_QZ> 3 levels above where u are Ahh. I will have to work harder at it :) 09:50pm <_QZ> i have no grenades or rockets and there is a sniper <_QZ> i cant figure out howto kill him <_QZ> sucks Yep half the game is problem solving... thats what I like Plus it remided me of my own job :) <_QZ> yer about to reach a kewl part <_QZ> u will get caught by the marines <_QZ> at the end of the level yer on <_QZ> after u meet the sniper babes Back ARRGGGH no story I said! :) bastard :) Now I wanna play.... jeeeze... 10:00pm ωνω Nater1464 [nate@ppp263.wi.centuryinter.net] has joined #tunes Hello hi Are you a member of the Tunes project? nope Thats ok, because I'm not (yet) either :) you? ah I'm the coodinator for UniOS I'm the ambassador for evil 10:50pm lol Really? Nice to meet you. I hope evil is well tonight :) whats unios like? It's an openproject being developed as a completly flexible OS. We have 14-15 members at the moment. Currently we have no working code and are working on design specs. ah open source......sheesh..... You don't like the idea? hey its great but you gain nothing by it.... Can't you feel the little GNU inside you screaming to get out? :) I hope to write an os someday.....and I will tell you it will not be open source until maybe 2 years after release My plans for the UniOS project is to make money of off configured implementations Open source has its advantages, as well as its disadvantages... but I'm going to do all I can to make it bulletproof....and make only one version (with occasional bugfixes).....then retire Hard to do. Bulletproof=Age=Experience=Time put into system. I know this to be true. Thats going to take quite some time... I can estimate, with a large group it will take 2-4 years before code is ready to be run... working alone... 5-8... very long time That does not mean bulletproof at all though... just enough to run I am trying to code my os with one other person... and it's damn slow. lar: I found it nearly impossible... I need a group. Call it a weakness if you'd like, but I could not find any other way around it. lar: What is your project specs? 32 bit Compatable with many FS. Support for windows/dos/linux 11:00pm And I certenly need to add more people to the group if I ever want to get it done. Ahh... a Universal Support OS. I like the idea. We are going the other route of no compatibility... a totally new system. But I cannot argue that a system that you propose would not be needed or liked if stable. just coding drivers would take a whole crew So I'v noticed... Using FAT is still confusing me. It's scary to think about it... I have 14 members. Tunes has nearly 100 and they are not much further than us :) Wow Are you fast, or Tunes slow? Tunes is not directed, and has many many offshoots. We (at the moment) are still a singular project, and have worked out many things that Tunes has (I use tunes as a comparison as we are very similar). Ah They are still in basic design phase, as are we <_QZ> tunes is based on fairy dust and cant be designed until fairy dust is created <_QZ> :) QZ: Trill said that was your belief :) heheheh <_QZ> ask them to describe how something might be implimented Fariy dust, eh? <_QZ> 'might' as in one of many many ways <_QZ> they cant even give one way <_QZ> cuz it cant be done So you don't like the tunes project? UniOS is based on nearly the same principles as Tunes... fairy dust not included... :) Well, raven is more fairy dust... but I hope to find a way to make fariy dust. 11:10pm ωνω SignOff Beholder: #TUNES (Read error to Beholder[ppp-104.m2-2.sub.ican.net]: Connection reset by peer) ωνω Beholder [beholder@ppp-104.m2-2.sub.ican.net] has joined #tunes Sorry bout that, got kicked off Efnet and Openprojects at the same time... strange? Weird... 11:20pm ωνω SignOff hcf: #TUNES (Leaving) I think all the net projects should find some way to share ideas and possibly code... make the whole open commmunity a force of nature. That would be cool... but it wouldn't be very practical. But speaking of that... you don't have any FAT code you can give me do you? Nopers... like I said we are totally codeless at the moment. My members (many of which work on their own OS projects) probably have some. Ok I am not _totaly_ codeless, I am just coding the OS in a weird order. ωνω SignOff Nater1464: #TUNES (Leaving) Some people like to call it the ladder method. As you program your design, the kernel changes, as you program your kernel, the design changes :) 11:30pm Hehe. Some ladder! It's the same way professional OS developer use I guess (I should know, one of the UniOS members is a kernel programmer for SPARC Solaris :) Wow, cool I saw the guy's resume and almost shit myself. Couldn't believe anyone with that much knowledge and experience would want to work on a new undefined "fairy dust" OS project :) He has contributed much in the way of enlightened wisdom, I guess you could call it. He's not much on x86 stuff, but sure as hell knows how Solaris works... inside out :) So are you going to support Solaris in your OS? It's a multi-platform project by design, so I guess thats a sure bet. I *LOVE* Sun machines.... I got to use a Sparc 20 station while working for an ISP... beautiful.... 20" screen, all SCSI... 32 bit color for everything... CDE.... It was only as fast as a Pentium-90 but it ran so smooth you'd think it had limitless power Yah, those Sparcs are really something. 11:40pm Not cheap, though :( Nope... they are very expensive they paid $5000 for that machine (used) Sometimes I hope they go out of business, so I can buy it off them :) LOL Sun has the coolest logo. I'd offer $500 for it :) They're dumb as rocks over there, they'd sell it too :) At sun? Yes Sun's logo is awsome... but nothing compared to the one you see when the machine is loading up :) No at the ISP :) Ohhhhhhhh π lar1/#tunes imagines the start up screen... ahhhh. I duunno how to describe it... it's a 24 bit color... just coolness... The machine would be wicked to play around with. Learn a little more about SRV4 Yah, that would be kick ass to get one. I know someone who works for sun... but that brings me no closer to a SPARC. :( I know they sell them used, all over the place. Older ones of course like the SPARC 20... But the machine was solid as a rock... I could not crash it until I pulled the plug (accident) one day :) I have seen them at the local electornics swap meet Cisco systems employee's ALL get sun workstations... F*ckin lucky bastards... still not cheap Danm! Err, Damn rather. Is BeOS still supported? That is about 500 machines in one building... BeOS? For what? The BeBoxes BeBoxes? Haven't heard of them. Does Sun make em? And I'd doubt it... Sun is only looking out for Solaris and Java noww 11:50pm Not Sun... I dont remember who made them Corel? They were really cool... imcompatable with everything... but rock soild and FAST! They do the StrongARM Linux boxes BeOS rocks... R4 is out for x86 now... I'm not one to buy, so I'm looking in the warez for it I have never used BeOS. What is it like? Me nither, but it supposed to be rock solid, boot in 8 seconds flat, and no program is able to load in more than 2.... I've seen tons of reviews on it Wow, who write software for it? They currently have over 20 confirmed 100 passive developers for the system. Major programs like 3DS Max, Lightwave, Xing, and stuff are being ported. It's multimedia heaven. The most awesome game machine I can think of. Does everything a MAC can do but better and more stable.... and on x86 :) They even are smart enough to make one of the first things a game SDK... I'm very happy with their progress Ooooo, ahhhh, I imaging that BeOs costs an arm and a leg. ωνω Beholder_ [beholder@ppp-104.m2-2.sub.ican.net] has joined #tunes ωνω SignOff Beholder: #TUNES (Read error to Beholder[ppp-104.m2-2.sub.ican.net]: Connection reset by peer) Wierd... got kicked again?
